Today is the turning point, I know because I've been through this hundreds of times. The head is feeling better, the chest a bit worse. What that means is that either the chest will start to feel better tomorrow and I'm on the mend - OR - the chest will continually get worse through the night and tomorrow I'll have the full blown chest version of the head 2 days ago. I'm hoping for the first option.
I've sort of lost track of time the last few days but this much I do remember, I GOTTA WII ! Yes, that's right, after much deliberation I dove into my 'techy' fund and finally made the purchase. The 'techy' fund has been building (ever so slowly) for a purchase that I just am too embarrassed to mention atm, but seeing as though I'm still trying to convince myself I really don't want/need this embarrassing purchase, I figured that draining the fund a little would make me take more time to think about it. Plus, I really have wanted a Wii since they came out and they have either been non-existant in shops or available and the 'techy' fund too low. The Wii's arrival coincided with the head/chest thing's arrival so I've not had the energy to give it a full workout . . . yet.
As the cold was just settling in, and I wasn't feeling too bad yet, we were out and about this past Sunday getting bits and bobs when I made the decision to go for the Wii. We checked several places and all were out of stock except for Tesco so the Wii was bought from them and the various Wii add-ons at Comet and Currys. After getting it all connected (simple) BH and I gave it a go . . . for several hours :-D I can tell already that it will get much use and really like the idea of being able to "play" video games while at the same time be out of the chair and moving about. Atm, bowling has got to be my favourite with golf a close second. We had to go back out after the main purchase because we needed another HDMI cable and BH wanted (you could just tell) PDC World Championship Darts 2008. I've not really tried it, and he seems to have trouble releasing his darts. Hmmm..... lol
So all in all, I am happy to have parted with a portion of the 'techy' fund for the Wii. Long may it bring us joy and that little bit of extra calorie burning activity!
The rest of my time has been spent either reading, tv or dozing although I did manage to get a loaf made, the bedding changed, meals made and an occasional tidy up here and there. Now I'm off to get caught up on emails and have a play with Evernote - great little program for note taking and "clipping" that I used constantly on Windoze but wasn't available for Macs, 'tis now! It seems as though it's even been improved since I last used it. I've got a few invites left should anyone need one. Just leave a comment with a name and email address to add.
Ok, I've had enough - I give - white flag flyin' and all that.
Not too long ago, I went on about how I was so happy with my point and shoot camera, while BH (Bestest Half) had to have one with lots of bells and whistles. Things were going quite well in the photography dept. (thank you, very much) when BH announced that he was seriously considering purchasing a DSLR camera. I already knew this was coming. He had been looking at photography magazines (I don't remember him buying many prior to this) and lots of them had DSLR's on the covers and lead stories about the wonderful things they could do, and they had even MORE (or possibly just different/better) bells and whistles. Ooooo.....the anticipation! Knowing BH as I do, this could only have meant one thing. The purchase of a DSLR was imminent. Finally after much deliberation the selection was made and set in stone. It was indeed purchased and I'm happy to say has seen much action since, and quite a few accessories acquired (a given).
Not too long after the DSLR's arrival my very adequate point and shoot died. No, I didn't want an DSLR, but I thought it might be good to have something of a 'step up' from the point and shoot and found what I think they were calling a 'Prosumer' (don't quote me on that tag) range. My thinking at the time was this: I wanted a camera that I could use as a point and shoot, but also one that had some bells and whistles so that I could grow into it and possibly be a better photographer taking better pictures in the future. First off, I should know that there is really no future-proofing when it comes to anything techy/gadgety and by the time I got around to using the bells and whistles they would have been outdated ages prior. Anyhoooo.......
I decided on one of these 'Prosumer' cameras and swiftly replaced the beloved point and shoot. It's . . . ok. I honestly don't feel that the camera's auto setting takes as nice a photo as my old one. So, to take a better photo you have to start messing with the bells and whistles. Fine. I've read about what settings do what, but none of it sticks in my mind, so that when I'm out and about I spend more time messing around with the camera's settings than I do taking photos. It's also fairly heavy which is not good if you're shooting with it for more than a minute or so 'cuz of the 'shake' factor and it sort of feels like a boulder around my neck. I've decided that I'm really, honestly not interested in all the tweaks I can do/all the settings I can change/all of the wonders a good photographer would relish. Therefore, while I have taken a lot of photos with it, I haven't really enjoyed it. The end product is pretty good, but the experience sucks (at least for me).
So today, yes that's right this is fresh off the press of my mind ;-) , I have changed my mind yet again and am going to sell off the prosumer and go for a bit of a downgrade. I've picked out which one I want and now it's just a matter of finding it. Yes, I was wooed by the TV/print/online advertising glut that's everywhere atm, but I did spend time researching it and it seems to be exactly what I want. Trouble is everywhere I look it is out of stock, and to make matters worse (I'm sure) I want the blue one which I have a feeling will make it harder to get. And, because the monies from the one I'm selling need to go towards the new one, I have to decide whether to go ahead and sell the current one and be cameraless but able to snatch up the first new one that comes available, or take my chances and keep the current one until there are more of the new ones floating around. Don't know what I'll do just yet, but I do know that I'm happy with the decision I've made and can't wait for the day when the new arrival is here and we're out and about being photo-happy. BH with his DSLR,camera bag/backpack,lenses,tripod,gorilla pod, filters, external flash etc . . . and me, with my camera . . . in my pocket. BLISS!
