Still here (barely) and still totally immersed in getting the 'other blog' up and running. I love learning a new program and in learning this one I'm also learning tons about building a website from scratch. Prior to this I had created a website for BH but it was/is very much a cut and paste job. It does look nice if I do say so myself, but it's old-style, if you will, with possibly too many animations and photos that could be cut in size at least in half etc... So, after getting my site up and running, when I know what I'm doing at least partially, I'll try re-doing BH's in RapidWeaver.
A year ago I would have run a mile should anyone suggest that I delve into the HTML or CSS code and change a bit here or there - not now. I am SO brave, lol. I'm still amazed at how just changing a couple of bits of code can make a page look so totally different, and I'm hooked. Too hooked maybe, because it's meaning that the other site is taking about twice as long to do as I had originally planned, and that's down to spending so much time on the 'back end' and tweaking this or that, but, I am having a ball.
It's just that the fun's got to stop sometime, at least for a short time, so that I can actually get it uploaded onto my webspace in all it's glory for the masses to flock to.
Well, one can dream can't one? :-D
An absolutely lovely Bank Holiday was had by yours truly and BH :-)
In the morning we roamed over to Burgh Castle for a nice long walk, having a look at the church (yes, and cemetery!) and then to the ruins. Then we wandered along the water for a bit and stopped at the Fishermans Bar for some refreshment before heading back home. Sun was up and hardly a cloud in the sky, temps were up there too, although I always wish it was hotter, lol. It was almost one o'clock when we got in and BH made breakfast for lunch :-) I adore breakfast (a full English) for lunch as I can't eat a lot first thing in the morning so it was a real treat.
After the feast and getting the washing up done, which I don't mind when the food tastes soooo good, we headed out again this time to the Yarmouth seafront to play spectators to the holiday makers. I'm an avid people watcher, and there's no better place than a seafront on a Bank Holiday, anywhere I suppose. We walked down one side of the seafront and then up the other, popping in here and there to have a look or take a photo.
After returning home again we had a light tea, a coffee for me and a cuppa for BH and then spent some time getting all of the photos off-loaded to our respective computers. I then got through the days newspaper while BH started on sorting through his pics, I'll leave mine for another day. A double dose of Corrie, made up a fresh loaf of bread, a bit more reading and then off to bed :-)
Today it was beautiful out again and BH is off this week so we managed to catch up on the "to-do" list in the garden and then called it a day about 2pm. Lazing about the rest of the afternoon and I've spent some more time on the new site. It's coming along rather well, and I still can't praise RapidWeaver enough. Tomorrow I'm hoping to spend the better part of the day tidying up some loose ends on site design and getting my webspace in order.
Thursday is a hair appointment and off to Norwich and then, hopefully Friday will be another day out before BH returns to work and I have to "get back to the grind" on Saturday.
Hope everyone enjoyed their Bank Holiday, got out in that sunshine and warm air - who knows (certainly not the weatherpeople, lol) how long it will last!
Still working on/with RapidWeaver, and luvvin' every minute! I'm sure the new site would be coming along lovely if only I could decide on design matters :-) I tend to be a bit like this, get really stuck into something and stay there until I'm either completely satisfied, totally frustrated or wholly exhausted - sometimes, somewhat of a combo.
A nice piece of smoked salmon and some fresh pasta and then to soldier on.
Tomorrow is supposed to be lovely and warm so I may have to take some time out from the 'studies' and spend a day or two out and enjoying the bank holiday weekend with BH.
Hope all of you do too!
Well, not here exactly (yet), and not all (yet). :-)
If we lived in some large old house I'd have a room that would be the library. A great, enormous room with exceptionally high ceilings, and it would be filled top to bottom, side to side, not an inch to spare, with books. But we don't. So, what I do is "order" books from the library and then if I really feel that they would be read/used more than once, I buy them.
Most times "ordering" books from the library is free, once in a great while if they have to go outside our system to get them there is a nominal charge (about £2 I think) but in any case lots cheaper than purchasing it and then be it good or be it bad, deciding that you probably would never read/use it again. I think it's a great service and am always surprised how many people don't know that you're able to "order" from the libraries.
Anyway, I've got a love for all things WWII era and the books that have arrived and are waiting to be picked up are: Food Glorious Food. Eating and Drinking with Good Housekeeping 1922-1942 and The Ration Book Diet and then the other two that haven't come in yet are Ration Book Cookery and Baking Basics Handbook. The last one is by Marguerite Patten, an absolute icon.
If it stops raining I may just take a break from RapidWeaver and trek over to the library!
Oooo....I dunno. To Twitter or not, that is the question. I've really no idea why I would . . . did Jaiku (sp?) quite a while back and wasn't too impressed. Same thing. . . basically. Right? Right?!
Why is it then that, for now at least, I'm leaving the link in place?
Another beautiful day out, and I've been inside doing the 'domestic' thing. :-( Had to be done, things just don't get dusted/cooked/ironed/washed/sorted/straightened or binned sitting outside in the sunshine. Did get a nice meal made though, and used a lot of herbs from BH's herb garden. He's got quite the variety growing now along with some lettuce and strawberries. I'm doing the flowers and he's doing the food, fair I think. :-) Now the clouds are starting to bunch up and get a bit darker so guess I'll be in this afternoon too. Which is okay, The Mac's innards are just about due a spring clean.
Time to go through the totally out of hand and waaayy too numerous bookmarks in FF and Safari, bin ones that don't interest me anymore or I've no idea why I saved in the first place and then re-sort the rest. Also there needs to be a cull online of beta's I've signed up for (because I've just GOT to try everything that comes along) . On average, I'd say that out of 10 beta's I try, I'm still using one in 3-6 months time. Of those, I'd imagine that fewer than 5% are still in use in a years time. So, cull it is!
The Mummy-in-law just dropped by a lovely piece of carrot cake and two cream cake thingys from their outing at a garden center (this one just happens, sheer coincidence I'm certain, to have a very nice cafe too). I am such a lucky girl! Most are usually single layer, this one is two layers with tons of lovely frosting! Mmmm....
I've also decided to redo the still very new "other blog" and get it off of Blogger. So I'll be spending some time getting to know RapidWeaver and trying to get everything set up for the move. "Other" will be foodie and everything else goes on Vox or Tumblr. That brings to mind another cull that is sorely needed - downloaded demo programs. I've got quite a few on here now that were free to try for a variety of time, and now it's time to get the ones that I haven't purchased and don't intend to, off. So if we do have a couple of rainy days like they seem to think we will, I've got lots of work sorted out to do!
As the April 15th tax filing deadline looms, many gay couples are facing higher tax bills because they do not get the federal tax benefits that accompany marriage. The same is true for heterosexual couples who chose not to get married. Do you think this is fair?
Not in the least. Family takes too many forms and I don't believe any government should try to dictate who/what is "family", and then penalize couples (and in turn the families they may be responsible for) financially for not adhering to the 'standard'.
Archaic.
Thanks to a screen capture posted on Flickr by Crimsonsilk I now know that I can retire forthwith and be solely dependent on my Vox blog to keep me in my old(er) age. Such a relief!
Have a look at the Website Value Calculator and see if you too can retire in style! Something tells me that a majority of people would be able to . . . dunno why, just a guess.
